5 Tips for Weight Loss Done Differently

Are you feeling that heavy belly bloat?  Maybe even brain fog?  Are you craving sugar treats?  I LOVE the holidays, cooking for loved ones and sharing the real spirit of the season.  
One of the challenges for me is to avoid too much sugar.  I know my limits and if I cross the line, I need to get serious about kicking the sugar treat habit.  

My 5 tips for weight loss done differently:

  1. Mindless eating – do you walk into the kitchen and open the refrigerator looking for something to eat?  Or maybe the pantry?  Do you grab a handful of chips, candy or cookies?  Pay attention to whether your belly is hungry or do you “think” you are hungry?  Notice how much you eat each day or week when you aren’t actually hungry.
  2. Restrictive dieting – do you eliminate food groups?  Please eat!  Restricting specific food groups leads to bingeing and even more craving.  Eat 3 meals a day, drink water to equal 1/2 your weight in ounces, and include all the macronutrients – carbohydrates, fats & proteins.
  3. Willpower is not the answer – Willpower has a time limit.  I have said that we can “hold our breath” for awhile but there is a point we can’t continue.  Create healthy habits one at a time.  Habits will become a part of your life with repetition and time.
  4. Voice in your head – “I’m tired, overworked, stressed, and I deserve this”.  Replace these thoughts with the practical side that gives you healthy choices.
  5. Emotional eating – This is a biggie.  Eating your feelings.  Tired, stressed, lonely, overworked, depressed are common reasons for overeating.  Food doesn’t fix feelings.  This is a huge topic for my clients.  Try the acronym HALT to determine if you are looking for food to soothe emotions.  Hungry, anxious or angry, lonely or tired.  
  6. Bonus!  Support – do you find a lack of support from people close to you?  Offering you extra dessert or foods you prefer not to eat or that don’t fit with your healthy eating plan.  Explain to your loved ones that you are doing what is important to you to feel and look your best.  You will be the best version of yourself

Cinnamon Baked Apple
 
4 apples, cored and sliced
2 tablespoons cinnamon
2 tablespoons coconut oil
 
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
 
Layer sliced apples in a baking dish. Coat with coconut oil and cinnamon.
Cover and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until tender.
Store in a covered dish in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
