How to Cleanse without Overwhelm
Last week I talked about WHY it is so important to give yourself a spring clean eating reset.  We focus on the liver and gallbladder and the benefits to these hardworking organs.  Let’s explore how to cleanse without overwhelm! This is a simple process and does not have to be difficult or scary.

WHAT IS A CLEANSE?
A cleanse is a type of alternative medicine treatment which aims to rid the body of unspecified “toxins” – substances that proponents claim to have accumulated in the body and have undesirable short-term or long-term effects on individual health.

WHY WE SHOULD CLEANSE
We are surrounded by more toxins than ever. Think about the pollution that we are exposed to every day. Toxic pollution, toxic make-up, non-organic food, hormones in foods, toxic cleaners, methylates and so many more.
It’s not about if you should cleanse, it’s about when you should cleanse so that you don’t get into a diseased state.
Cleansing is not about deprivation and is not designed to be stressful. It can be super easy. It is a lifestyle change not just a diet.

Now that we know why we should cleanse, I will now show you how a day could look with just eating better and with that it will cleanse the toxins out of your body. Clean eating is a major part of a cleanse.

BREAKFAST
Start your day with a delicious breakfast smoothie just like this one:

  • 1-cup coconut milk
  • 1 scoop protein powder – I choose NeoLife
  • 1 tablespoon ground chia seeds
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 banana
  • ½ cup spinach
  • 1 tablespoon tahini

Note: to warm your smoothie add ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmeg or clove.  By adding, you are warming your digestion. If you feel cold from drinking your smoothie or juice, follow with a hot cup of dandelion or chamomile tea with raw honey to warm your digestion.

MID MORNING SNACK
A quick mid-morning snack will help fill the hunger between breakfast and lunch.
A raw apple and a handful of almonds is a great snack.

LUNCH
Try a simple and delicious salad such as this one:

  • 2 cups mixed greens
  • 3 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 1 apple cut into small pieces
  • ½ avocado
  • 1/4 cup raisins or ¼ cup goji berries
  • handful of fresh parsley

Dressing:

  • 2 tablespoons Braggs Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • juice from a lemon

Mix all salad ingredients in a bowl and toss with dressing.
NOTE: Add your choice of protein to your salad

MID AFTERNOON SNACK
A perfect afternoon snack can be as simple as a pear and some walnuts.
Delicious!

DINNER
Did you think Taco Night could be considered Clean Eating?

  • 1 cup raw sunflower seeds, soaked and drained
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1 heaping teaspoon taco seasoning
  • 4 romaine lettuce leaves or collard green leaves
  • 1 avocado, chopped
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup Creamy Zucchini Dressing

Combine sunflower seeds, lime juice, and taco seasoning in a high-speed blender or food processor. Pulse until well mixed, but not smooth like peanut butter.
Spoon the taco mixture into romaine or collard leaves.
Top with avocado, red onion, and Creamy Zucchini Dressing.

It’s that simple. You don’t have to overthink you just have to be aware of the choices you are making when it comes to your food. Taking just a little more time to care about what you put into your body can make all the difference to your health and happiness.
