Balance Blood Sugar
More on the topic of sugar. It’s a biggie and I want to help you understand the role of glucose a bit more.
This is an instance where balance is very important.
Should we avoid sugar and never have even a granule of it? No!
It is vital to our mental and physical performance that our body receives a steady energy supply. Carbohydrates, fats and protein are used to fuel the body. We need each of these macronutrients for overall good health and energy.
Glucose is primarily sourced from carbohydrates. It is required by all cells, the brain is the biggest consumer of glucose, accounting for about 50% of the body’s use.
Glucose is important in the body, however, we are eating as a society, over 100 lbs of sugar per year. This is NOT GOOD for our bodies!
Too much glucose on a continual basis can react with and harm the body’s tissues and fat storage systems. This can result in unhealthy weight gain, increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes and other chronic diseases.
What can you do right now to help balance your glucose?
- Eat 3 meals a day, plus 2 optional mini snacks
- Eat high protein foods
- Drink coconut water
- Eat foods high in B vitamins
- Take a walk
