3 Step Self Care in 5 Minutes

Do you feel as if you don’t have time for self care?  Do you think you need to set aside an hour a day for it to make a difference?

Self care is simply taking care of ourselves so we are able to function at our best.  Eat clean and healthy, get plenty of rest and find an exercise or “movement” you enjoy.  Spend time in relationships that are sustainable and bring a smile to your face and do work you are passionate about.

OK, now on to our simple 3 Steps:

  1. Meditation – Before you even get out of bed or as you step out take 1 minute for several deep belly breaths.  Breath in and fill your lungs, breath out and expel all the air.  1 minute
  2. Movement – While you are running water for your shower, do a few yoga stretches for 2 minutes.  Downward facing dog, cat / cow, forward folds, lunges, child pose are suggestions to get your day started.  2 minutes
  3. Mindset – Read a page or two in a book that is motivational to you for 2 minutes.  This can be related to work production, focus, or the Bible.  Whatever you find motivating.  Even a few pages every day will have a big impact on your attitude and mindset.  2 minutes

There.  That’s it.  Give it a try, I truly believe you will be pleased with your results from this simple self care.

Chicken, Broccoli, Carrot & Black Bean Soup

Serves 4

1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 large onion, chopped
4 large carrots, chopped
4 celery ribs, chopped
2 chicken breasts, chopped (optional)
Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
1 tablespoon all-purpose seasoning (salt-free)
2 15-ounce cans black beans, drained and rinsed
4 cups vegetable broth
1 bunch broccoli, chopped into florets

Place a large soup pot on the stove over medium heat. Add coconut oil. Once the oil melts, add onion, carrots, and celery.
Sauté for about 3 minutes, then add chopped chicken, salt, pepper, all-purpose seasoning, black beans, and vegetable broth.
Cover and cook for about 25 minutes on medium-low heat.

Check the pot every 10 minutes to ensure that there is sufficient liquid in the pot. If you need more liquid, add about 1⁄4 cup of water or broth at a time.
Stir in the broccoli florets and cover.

Cook for an additional 5 minutes until the broccoli is tender.
