Tips for Migraines
I have experienced migraines since I was a child.  You know that feeling when your head feels like it will explode, you need all the lights off and NO noise, it hurts to walk or talk AND you feel like you will vomit (and sometimes it happens).  It is an absolutely “no fun” experience.  It has been years since I have had a migraine headache until last week.  It caught me by surprise.  The blessing in this was the reminder what my triggers are and how do I make the pain go away.  That is what I am going to share with you.  
My Triggers:
- Lack of good rest and sleep
 - Caffeine
 - Chocolate
 - Cigarette smoke (I don’t smoke – 2nd hand)
 - Stress
 - Eating quick and unhealthy foods
 
My Tricks to Fix:  
- Water with lemon juice & lots of it to flush the toxins
 - Rest in a dark, quiet room even if only 15 minutes
 - Ice pack to the back of the neck
 - Salmon oil & magnesium
 - Green grapes – yes indeed, these really work – I eat 1 or 2 cups right away
 - Peppermint essential oil
 - Aleve if I remember – I don’t take meds so this is a last call
 - Stop thinking and let the mind rest
 - Chiropractor and/or acupuncturist visit
 
My Prevention Plan:  
- Drink 56-64 oz of water per day – lemon juice in the morning before eating or drinking anything else
 - Salmon oil & magnesium every evening before bed
 - Eat clean, avoid processed food or sugar
 - Detox with whole foods seasonally
 - Sleep 7-8 hours per night
 - Eat green grapes every couple weeks
 - Chiropractor adjustment regularly / Acupuncturist
 - Quiet time each day – even if only 15-30 minutes
 - Focus on the task at hand to avoid stress juggling too many things at once
 
So what happened that caused my recent killer migraine? Lack of sleep, eating on the go and not making the time for enough of my healthy snacks, unrelenting stress from several directions, not enough water, AND drinking regular coffee (not my typical decaf).
